The ratio of different sources of energy consumed for electricity production in Germany in years 1990 and 2010 is illustrated in the table.
Overall, at the beginning of the period, coal contributed the most, to generate the electricity while, renewable sources were among the least significant catergory. Similarly, at the end of the period, coal remained as the highest source of electricity generation while other groups made the lowest rate as energy resources.
Coal notably, accounted for more than half of the resources of energy in 1990 but experienced a drammatic fall to 45% in 2010. Nuclear power made up 22%, among all categories in 1990 however increased by 1% only, in 2010. at the beginning of the period, natural gas contributed to make 8% as a source to generate electricity, then increased to 13% at the end of the period. Hydro, which participated to make one-forth of the whole electricity in Germany in 1990, experienced a slight rise to 5% in 2010. A significant growth observed in solar and wind category from 2 to 12% in 1990 and 2010 respectively. In contrast, other groups made up 7% of the whole chart in electricity generation although, decreased gradually to be only 2% and thr least amount in 2010.
