The table gives information about the changes in international visitors to different continents in 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005.
Overall, the number of foreign tourists to most continents increased from 1990 to 2005. Along with that, Europe accounted for the largest number of international travelers in all years.
In 1990, Europe had more than 280 million international visitors. Then in turn America with more than 80 million international visitors, more than 60 million people from Asia and the Pacific. Africa had more 18 million international travelers, while the figure for the Middle East was only around half of that, at 9.8 million.
Over the following fifteen years, the number of European travelers continued to rise, peaking at 400.2 million in 2005. Meanwhile the number of international travelers from America peaked at 118.2 million in 2000, before dropping to 113.2 million in 2005. The figures for the remaining regions also increased over the period, Asian Pacific travelers rose from 80.3 million in 1995 to over 138 million in 2005; African travelers amounting to 28.7 million, and those from the Middle East, 15.8 million.
