The table compares different genres in terms of number of releases, % of all releases and % of incomes from ticket sales in the UK and Republic of Ireland in 2012. Overall, while drama and documentary dominated in number of releases, profits from ticket sales was the hiest in comedy genre. Hovewer, whereas horror and thriller films had almost the same number of releases, the income from their ticket sales was significantly different.
Drama, documentary and comedy were watched more times than other genres. Drama and documentary were released 35 times each in 2012, which constituted 23.6% af all releases. However, their rate of income from ticket sales made up only 8.3% for drama and 2.9% for documentary. Although comedy was less popular and ranked the second, the profits from this genre were the highest and accounted for 45.2%.
Focusind on films with much less quantity of releases, horror and thriller showed similar pattern with 14 and 13. However, while the percentage of income from ticket sales composed 20.2% for horror movies, the figure for thriller comprised only 1.3%. Crime, romance and action were watched 7, 5 and 4 times respectively and their profits made up 4.7% for the former one, 0.8% for the latter and 4.1% for the third. However, while biopic genre was the least popular and the number of releases conctituted 1, the rate of income, which comprised 9.1%, was much more than from sellind tickets in majority other genres.
