The table provides the data of six departments at an Australian university in 2009, that is categorized by the percentage of females, the percentage of students whose first language is not English and those who were born abroad.
Overall, the Humanities Department had the highest proportion of female students, while Engineering had the lowest. Information Technology Department was considered as the most internationally influenced due to the highest rate of students whose first language was not English and those who were born outside Australia. In contrast, the Humanities Department had the smallest proportion of such students.
In terms of gender, the Humanities Department had the highest proportion of present women, at 72%, closely followed by Education Department with percentage rate at 68%, Physics Department at 56%, and Science Department at 52%. Conversely, Information Technology and Engineering Departments had the lowest present of female student, at 17% and 15%, respectively.
When it comes to students whose first language was not English, the Informational Technology Department had the highest proportion of such students, at 49%, closely followed by Science and Engineering Departments at 45% and 42% units each. The Education and Humanities Department recorded the lowest present of such students, at 12% and 16%, in turn.
Interestingly, science-focused Departments like Informational Technology, Physics, Engineering, and Science had approximately similar level of students who were born outside ranging between 31% and 56%, whereas Humanities and Education Departments had the lowest proportion of international influence at 20% and 23%.
