The tables demonstrate data about regional potato consumption per person, and how many tons of potato produced by region in 2006. Overall, by far the highest consumption recorded in Europe, whereas the reverse was true for Africans. In addition, Asia/Oceania produced the largest quantity of potatoes among regions while South and Central America produced the smallest.
Regarding potato consumed per person, Europeans headed the list, with 96.1 kg per person. Next came North America with 57.9 kg, followed distantly by Asia/Oceania with 25.8 kg. South and Central America stood at 23.6 kg per person, as opposed to Africa whose people consumed only 14.1 kg per person.
In terms of production, top of the list is Asia/Oceania which produced 131.2 million tons, followed closely by Europe with 126.3 million. North America ranked third with 24.7 million. At the bottom of the list were Africa and South and Central America which showed nearly equal figures, with 16.4 million and 15.6 million tons.
