The tables illustrate the consumption and production of potatoes accross five regions (South and Central America, Africa, North America, Europe and Asia/ Oceania) in the year 2006.
Overall, in terms of consumption, Europe is the highest, and Africa is the least. Whereas Asia/ Oceania has largest potato production and South and Central America produce lowest quantity of potatoes.
In the year 2006, potatoes were most popular in the Europe region with highest consumption of 96.1, whereas it produces about 126.3 million tonnes. Asia/ Oceania produced 131.2 million tonnes of potatoes, however the consumption was not as much with just 25.8 kg per person. The second most potatoes consumptioners were North Americans, eventhough the production was nearly 25 million.
In contrast, Africa was the least in terms of potatoes consumption, producing around 16.4 million tonnes in the year 2006. The South and Central America produced 15.6 million tonnes of potatoes in the same year and the consumption was 23.6 kg per person.
