The tables illustrates the intake and output of potatoes in five different continients in the year 2006.
In general, while Europeans produced the most potatoes, Asians were its most avid consumers. It is also noticable that Africa has some of the lowest numbers in both tables.
Looking closer at the first table, in 2006, the regions of Southern and Central America consumed 23.6 kg of tomatoes per capita. Meanwhile, their neighbors in the Northern Hemisphere ate twice as much potatoes. Africans and Asians taken in 14.1 and 25.8 kg of tomatoes respectively. Lastly, potatoes proved to be a favorites among Europeans with consumption reaching nearly 100 kg on average.
Moving on to the second table, Southern and Central Americans harvested 15.6 million tonnes of potatoes in 2006. Africans farmers only got 16.4 million tonnes in the same period, whereas the figure for their North American’s colleagues was 24.7 million tonnes. In contrast, Europeans and Asians nearly tripled the other nations’ combined output, totalling 126.3 and 131.2 tonnes respectively.
