The table compares five parts of the world in terms of per capita potato comsumption and production in the year 2006.
Overall, Europe was by far the largest consumer of potato, distantly followed by North America and the remaining regions made up the rest of the list with significantly lower figures. However, a slightly=somewhat different pattern was the case in potato cultivation, with Asia/Oceania and Europe being the biggest producers.
Focusing first on potato consumption, Europe led the table with a staggering 96.1 kg, which was far higher than the second highest North America whose figure stood at nearly 60 kg. By contrast, the rest of the regions namely Asia/Oceania, South and Central America and Africa had noticeably lower rates of potato consumption at around 26, 24 and 14kg respectively.
Asia/Oceania and Europe were two top countries for potato production with similar figures of slightly over 131 and 126 million tonnes. Similar to potato consumption, the other three parts of the world cultivated much less potato- nearly 57 million tonnes all three combined.
