The tables provide information on why and when people quit smoking.
Overall, 71% of individuals stop smoking to improve their well-being in general. This reason ranks first among all categories of smokers. In contrast, people’s current health issues stand last. As for the timing is concerned about half of the smoking population intend to wean themselves off their habit within the next six months; However, the remaining 29% of them choose not to.
The most striking feature of the data is that 74% smokers, smoking fewer than 10 cigarettes a day, care for their overall health. While the same share approximately applies to other groups of people with more severe smoking habits, only 10 and 19 per cent of smokers in each section have the intention of changing their habit to avoid harmful issues they are facing at the moment. Additionally, financial considerations, less risk of getting sick for smoking reasons as well as familial causes, contribute to 31, 25, and 16 per cent of the figures, respectively.
Another staggering fact from the tables reveal that the more people smoke, the harder it is for them to quit smoking, with 40 per cent of +20 not willing to give up, and 60 per cent of them postponing it. Only 8% of them are eager to finish smoking within the next month. This information contrasts sharply with the light smokers with 79% of them deciding to quit in total among which 46% of them planning for the next six month as the starting point.
