The three pie charts illustrate the changes in the proportion of government spending, measured in percentages, in Someland in 1980, 1990 and 2000. Overall, it can be clearly observed that the majority of the used budget was allocated to higher education whereas the environmental services had the least proportion of investments.
Most noticeably of all, in 1980, higher education accounted for more than a third of total money spent by local authorities. In 1990, the expenditure on higher education programs increased to more than two fifths of the total budget but this number had a slight downfall and equaled two-fifths in 2000. The second highest proportion of expenditure was given to K-12 education at about a quarter in 1980. In the following two decades the figures dropped to a fifth in 1990 and to less than a fifth in 2000.
As for transportation, in 1980 it was responsible for just below a fifth of total spendings. In 1990 it dropped significantly and accounted for a very small number while in 2000 the expenditure on transportation registered a boom at just above a fifth. Health and human resources sector went through considerable fluctuation during detected periods, accounting for a minority of total government investments in 1980, a fifth in 1990 and falling to one in ten in 2000. As mentioned before environmental services comprised the least proportion of government expenditure but had moderate growths in all three decades. In 1980 and 1990 they only made up a minority of spending while in 2000 they increased to just below one in ten of total money allocated by the local government.
