The three pie charts compare the percentage of four types of cars used in the UK in 1965, 1985 and 2005.
Overall, the proportion of private cars was the highest among the four categories throughout the year. Noticeably, recreational vehicles only accounted for the smallest part in the given years.
As you can see in the graphs, the percentage of private cars stood at 40% initially, the main usage in the UK, before climbing steadily to 60% over a 40-year period, maintaining its status throughout the given years. However, recreational vehicles were the least popular in the UK with lower than 10% in three given years.
As for the usage of public transport and lorries and other commercial vehicles, they were relatively steadily. In 1965, the figures for public transport dropped from 25% to 20% after two decades and then rebounded slightly to 22% in 2005. From 1965 to 1985, the proportion of lorries and other commercial vehicles remained unchanged at 20%, and by 2005, it had halved to merely 10%.
