The two graphs depict a proportion of smokers and the consumption of alcohol in litres in selected countries throughout the period of 1960 – 2000.
The first graph illustrates the gradual decline in percentage of smokers. The second graph presents fluctuating changes in alcohol consumption in those years.
The ratio of smokers in Holland had plateau of 60% from 1960 to 1970, then it experienced a sharp decrease to almost 4% for the next 10 years, afterwards a steady fall was till 2000. In the US and Japan the trend had been stable during the first 10 years, before started dropping moderately.
The amount of litres of alcohol consumed per person in Holland jumped rapidly from 4 to almost 12 from 1960 to 1980. In the USA and Turkey the consumption grew slowly in the same years.
