The two pie charts illustrate the proportion of energy produced by five main sources in the years 1980 and 1990.
Overall, in the given time frame, oil accounted for the lion’s share of energy production even though it experienced a decrease. Coal as well as nuclear power showed growth in energy production and its reverse was applicable to natural gas.
In 1980, oil was the dominant producer of energy, accounting for 42%, which declined considerably by 9% to a third of the total(33%) in 1990. In stark contrast, generation from coal rose by 5% from 22% to 27%. The figures for natural gas reduced marginally from 26% to a quarter(25%).
Conversely, hydroelectric power remained completely static, contributing 5% in both the years which represented the smallest fraction. Finally, nuclear power climbed from 5% to a tenth of the total(10%) after a decade.
