The charts compare the percentage of five different sources used to produce energy in a nation in two years, 1985 and 2003.
Overall, energy made from coal and natural gas increased in percentage, while energy produced from oil and nuclear declined. Despite a sharp decrease, oil still had the highest proportion in both years.
In 1985, the highest proportion of energy is made by oil, which accounted for 52%. However, this figure saw a significant decline in 2003, falling to 39% of the total. Energy made from nuclear decreased slightly, from 22% in 1985 to 17% in 2003.
In contrast, the proportion of energy produced from natural gas doubled to 23% in 2003, followed by a slight increase of the energy from coal, from 8% in 1985 to 13% in 2003. Hydroelectric power had the smallest percentage in both years and remained unchange during the period, accounting for only 4% of the total.
