The two maps illustrate how Dalton town has developed between 1815 and 2015.
Overall, the area has been transformed from a predominantly rural area to a more urbanzied and industrial region. The key changes are the expansion of housing, the construction of new amenities, and an industrial zone.
In 1815, there was a large Dalton Forest positioned to the west of the minor river running from the north to the main river, River Dal, in the south of the area. A long road named Bridleway ran from the east and crossed the river, leading to the ford. A residential area located along a road stretching from the north and cutting Bridleway Road. There was a Dalton Hall running parallel to Bridleway Road, positioned near a hall farm and some houses, and some cattle lived near this.
In 2015, the forest in the west has been changed completely. Bridleway Road was lengthened towards the west with a new industrial zone. A housing zone was newly constructed in the northwest, opposite a hospital near the minor river through a new road running from the north to the south. Moreover, a big bridge was built for easy transport. Also, an airport was opened along the riverside. The farm area has been replaced by more houses and a school and a hotel nearby. Meanwhile, the residential area in the north was expanded and added a small path.
