The two map figures demonstrate Kingston’s University Hospital with respect to 30-years time period, between 1990 and 2020.
Overall, the map illustrates how the hospital and parking area enlarged to eastern territories to accommodate the increasing need for public health services. The forest area, which covered the north-eastern region was removed, and new University Hospital blocks and a parking area cover that newly opened space. Moreover, the previous entrance road split into two separate ways to manage car and human traffic going to the hospital and parking area.
On the north side of the map, we can observe some changes made according to the hospital and its nearby lands. The major difference that catches the eye is the University Hospital divided into two separate blocks, one for outpatients and one for inpatients on the west and east side of the map respectively, and the separate roads placed for connecting those in and out parts for patients. The inpatients block of the hospital was built by deforesting some of the north and east side of the forest regions. And finally, a new ambulance entrance was opened to connect cars between the outpatients part of the hospital to Nessan’s Rd.
On the other hand, the south side observed new changes also. The parking area enlarged to the east by encompassing some previous forest areas, and a new public entrance was made in the same place as the old common entrance for attaching both the old entry and the new north entrance of the parking area.
