The two maps show the changes that took place at the Tilden Airport and the surrounding area between 1985 and 2015.
Overall, the airport became much larger and more modern over the thirty-year period. A second runway and several new facilities were added, while the surrounding area changed from factories to new business, housing and tourism related buildings.
In 1985, the airport had only one runway on the western side. There were separate International and domestic terminals next to it and a car park located to the south. Airport support services were in the centre of the southern side, while two factories were built on the south east corner. At the north of the road, there was a Johnson’s farm.
By 2015, many major developments had taken place. A second runway was constructed across the north side of the road. The International terminal was expanded, whereas the domestic terminal and the car park remained unchanged. A new bus and a light rail station was added beside the car park and a light rail line was built along the main road. In the surrounding area, the factories were replaced by an Airport support services building and a hotel and conference centre. To the north, the Johnson’s farm was disappeared, making way for a business park and a housing state.
