The maps illustrate the developments which occurred to a city library over a 10-year period from 2004 to 2014.
Overall, the city library experienced a complete transformation with more facilities added.
Previously, in 2004, the library was accessed via the main entrance in the west, which led to reception desk. Opposite the reception desk was a reference room overlooking a spacious courtyard to its east. Furthermore, the northern part of the library housed a general collection including a fiction, a non-fiction, children’s sections and magazines, while the southern area contained an art gallery, academic journals and a gift store.
In the following 10 years, the most striking change is the introduction of new movies and computer games to the east of the general collections. As a result, the width of the fiction, non-fiction, children’s sections was reduced by half, and the magazines were moved to the west of the entertainment centre. Another noticeable change is that the gift shop and the art gallery were relocated to the southeast corner to make way for the construction of a computer and media room. Opposite the art gallery and gift shop was the launch of a new café overlooking an outdoor performance area. The final development is the movement of the academic journals to the reference room.
