The bar chart displays the proportion of British men and women, who consumed more than five portions of fruit and vegetables on a daily basis in different age brackets in 2006.
Overall, the youngest group ate the least amount of fruit and vegetables, whereas among those aged 55 to 64, the consumption rate was highest. In the oldest age group consumption was on the same level for both genders at 25%.
In terms of women, 19-24 age bracket consumed only 16% of fruit and vegetables, which is the lowest percentage compared to others. Their consumption rate then went up and reached its peak in the 55-64 age group, at approximately 34%. However, after that, percentage dropped to 25% in the oldest group.
Looking specifically at men, their consumption as well as women’s was the least in the 19-24 age bracket. According to world health organization standards, those aged 55-64 were the healthiest as their daily consumption was highest at about 32%. Interestingly, males consumption of fruit and vegetables was less than females’ in each age group.
