The given pie charts illustrate the primary purposes for learning English among students from four different nationalities (South Korea, Spain, China, and Turkey) at a language school in the UK in 2017.
Looking at work-related pupose, China had the highest percentage of students learning English for their careers, at 59.6%. This was followed by South Korea and Turkey, where the figures were quite similar, at 47.3% and 48.5% respectively. In contrast, only 28.4% of Spanish students studies english because of work, making it the lowest figure in this category.
Regarding academic reasons, almost half of Spanish learners(49.3%) studied English for university, which was the largest percentage among all nations. Meanwhile, South Korea, Turkey, and China recorded lower figures, at 44.1%, 39.2%, and 37.2% respectively.
The reamining category represented the smallest share in every country. It accounted for just 3.2% of Chinese learmers, compared with 8.6% in South Korea, 13.3% in Turkey, and the highest figure of 22.3% among Spanish students.
Overall, it is evident that enmployment was the main reason for studying in English among South Korean, Chinese, and Turkish students, whereas Spanish students mostly learnt the language for university purposes. In all four countries, other reasons accounted for the smallest proportion.
