The line charts provide data about populations in the countries of the Southern Pacific Ocean from 1950 up to 2040.
It is evident that the population continues to grow from 1950 to 2040 in both urban and rural areas. Meanwhile, the age distribution chart shows that individuals under 15 years old make up the largest proportion, while those over 65 represent the smallest.
In 1950, the total population was approximately 15 million, with around 10 million residing in urban areas and 5 million in rural areas. By 2020, the population had increased to roughly 40 million, with 30 million urban residents and 10 million rural residents. It is forecasted to further climb to around 45 million by 2040, with urban dwellers rising to 35 million and rural dwellers remaining at 10 million.
Regarding age structures, the under-15 age group consisted of 7 million in 1950, compared to 5 million in the 15-65 age group, and nearly zero individuals aged over 65. By 2020, the youth population surged to 25 million, the working-age population increased to 7 million, and those over 65 years of age accounted for 5 million. Projections suggest that by 2040, the youngest group will reach a total of 28 million, adults will number 9 million, and those over 65 will rise to 10 million.
