The graph delineates the percentage of the UK population aged over 4 who engaged with radio and television at different times from October to December 1992.
Looking from an overall perspective, it can clearly be seen that the audience to both media devices fluctuated wildly throughout the period, except for some days. Also, generally the index of viewers of TV experienced a consistent upward trend , in contrast a steady downward movement can be seen on Radio’s lines.
Concerning the details, in the morning the percentage of listeners radio had surged sharply and then at 8 am it reached the highest position at roughly 25%. Following this peak, the proportion of radio listeners had declined gradually before this line got the lowest point at 9pm, approximately3%.
Conversely, TV audiences followed a different pattern. Initially, the percentage of viewers TV dropped sharply between 6 am. and 11 .m. However, after this point, the figures rose significantly, whereas radio audiences experienced the opposite trend. Afterwards, a sharp increase can be seen in the number of viewers TV, where the aforementioned index hit the peak at around 45%, whereas the proportion of listeners radio started to fall steadily. Despite some volatility, in the end of the graph the percentage of TV exceeded radio rivals by 40%.
