However, there was a significant decline to 4000 in shop openings in 2012, and then rose sharply to just above 6000 from 2012 to 2014, whereas the number of shop closures started at roughly 6400, while there were minor fluctuations in the number of shop closures between 2011 and 2014, matching almost the number of shop openings.
From 2014 to 2015, the number of shop closures hit a low of just under 1000, which was the lowest figure over the period, subsequently it surged significantly after 2015, and exceeded shop openings in 2016, it remained stable to just above 5000 by 2018. Furthermore, the number of shop openings dropped moderately to 3000 from 2014 to 2018.
