Dear Martin,

I am writing this letter to explain why it took so long to return a book i borrowed last month.

First of all I would like to apologise for not being able to return your book on time as we initially agreed. The reason why I was not able to do so is that my cat spil the coffee on your book when I left the book open on the table next to a cup of coffee I intended to drink while reading.

Unfortunately some pages now have some stains and I could not return the book in the condision it has now. Therefore I have already ordered new book from Amazon. I expect that the shipping will take arounf 10 days anf then I will be able to return your new book.

I really hope that this accident will not affect our warm and close relations because i really value your friendship and nice time we spent since we first met.
