I am writing this letter to explain why it took so long to return the book I borrowed from you last month.
First of all, I would like to apologize for not being able to return your book on time as we initially agreed. The reason I was unable to do so is that my cat spilled coffee on the book when I left it open on the table next to a cup of coffee I had intended to drink while reading.
Unfortunately, some pages now have stains, and I could not return the book in its current condition. Therefore, I have already ordered a new copy from Amazon. I expect the shipping to take around 10 days, after which I will be able to return the new book to you.
I really hope that this accident will not affect our warm and close relationship, because I truly value your friendship and the wonderful time we have spent together since we first met.
