The pie charts below indicate the proportion of how much adults spent time on different activities (working, sleeping, relaxing at home, travelling at home, going out, and other interests including sports) in one specific country, in the years 1958 and 2008.
Overall, what stands out from the graphs is that in both years, most of the adult’s day was wasted on working. Another interesting fact is that other important leisure time affairs like sleeping and spending time with family and friends considerably decreased.
As regards the first graph, in 1958, most of the time was wasted on working, with 33 percent. However, the ratio of sleeping wasn’t much different, because it had 32 percent. There wasn’t much duration spent on doing other hobbies and sports, since it had only 6 percent. Subsequently, the percentage of just relaxing at home was also surprisingly low, being less than 10%. But, hanging out with loved ones was very common, having 19% of their day spent on it.
If we look at the second chart, it can be seen that the working time has considerably grew, with 42%, which is nearly half of their day. The period sleeping or napping has also lowered. Comparing both graphs, in 1958, barely anytime was wasted on travelling to work (2 percent), but in 2008, almost ten percent of time was spent every day in adult life. Following this, going out with other people has significantly reduced, with only 6%. Nonetheless, the duration of tasks like sports and just relaxing at home has marginally improved, with 8 and 13 percent respectively.
