The bar chart illustrates the contribution of three sectors, namely agriculture, industry and services, to India’s gross domestic product (GDP) between 1960 and 2000
Overall, the contribution of agriculture decreased steadily over the period, while the services sector increased significantly and became the largest contribtor by 2000. In contrast, the industry sector change only slightly.
In 1960, agriculture accounted for about 63% of India’s GDP, making it the largest sector. However,its contribution fell gradually to around 55% in 1970, 47% in 1980, 33% in 1990 and only about 17% in 2000. By contrast,the services sector rose from approximately 18% in 1960 to 25% in 1970 and almost 30% in 1980
The contribution of the industry sectors was the lowest at around 16% in 1960. It increased gradualy to about 22% in 1970, 26% in 1980 and 28% in 1990 before remaining almost unchanged in 2000. Meanwhile, the services sector continued to grow,reaching approximately 47% in 1990 and about 65% in 2000, becoming the largest contributor to India’s GDP.
