Dear Sarah and John,
I am writing to express my sincerest apologies for a terrible mistake I made while you were away on holiday. I am absolutely devastated to admit that I forgot to water your plants, and as a result, they have died.
The past two weeks became incredibly chaotic for me due to an unexpected family emergency. My mother was suddenly admitted to the hospital, and my focus completely shifted to managing her care and rushing back and forth from the hospital. In the midst of that overwhelming stress, the promise I made to look after your garden completely slipped my mind.
I feel incredibly guilty and embarrassed about letting you down. I know how much time, care, and effort you put into nurturing your plants, and I hate knowing that my irresponsibility has caused you this loss. It was completely unfair to you, especially when you trusted me to look after your home.
To try and make things right, I would love to fully replace the plants that were lost. I am more than happy to accompany you to the local garden centre to buy new ones, or you can purchase them and pass the receipts to me so I can reimburse you entirely. Additionally, I would be glad to help you plant them and handle any heavy lifting in the garden.
I completely understand if you are upset with me, and I deeply value our relationship as neighbours. I hope you can accept my apologies, and I am ready to do whatever it takes to make amends.
Warm regards,
Alex
