Dear Tom,
I am writing regarding the barometer you lent me last week. Unfortunately, I will not be able to return it because it was stolen. I understand that it was entirely my fault and will compensate you the cost of the gauge.
I thought nothing will happen if I leave it in my car for one night. I see clearly now that it was a bad idea to put it under the front window where it can be visible from the outside. Someone have broken the glass and snitched your barometer alongside with my video registrator, 50$ in cash and even the cat plushie!
I am sorry for what has happened and feel that I should be more careful with your property. I have already contacted the police, maybe they will help to catch the robber. As for now, I am ready to compensate the loss with money or buy a new barometer of the same model as the lost one.
I am waiting for your decision regarding the compensation. Contact me as soon as possible.
Best wishes,
Michael
