Overall, library memberships were largely contributed to by adults from 18 to 64 years old in 2016; however, the most borrowed categories of books were shared by two categories across different age groups. In addition, the quantity of loans fluctuated during the 10-year period.
Looking at the age distribution of people who held memberships in 2016, the group of adults from 18 to 64 years old accounted for over half of the total percentage, while the lowest was elderly people aged 65 years or older at just 12%. Besides, the second-highest rate of membership belonged to children. Therefore, the highest percentages of loaned books were both children’s and adult fiction at 38%, surpassing other categories.
Turning to the number of loans from 2007 to 2016, it started above the 15,000 mark in 2007, then rose slightly to around 19,000 in 2008 and stayed unchanged in 2009. In the years that followed, the figure witnessed an overall upward trend while fluctuating around 20,000 and ending up at almost 21,000 in the final year.
