The table presents data on two lists of separate top ten countries with the largest population, including a level in 2019 and a projection in 2100.
Overall, while nearly all ten countries in the list of 2019 are expected to gradually increase their population, a few regions may be replaced after an 81-year period. Besides, the country ranked first population in 2019 was China, but by 2100, India is predicted to hold this position.
Specifically, both India and Nigeria are projected to increase in population size and rank, reaching the first and the third place respectively. There was a stark contrast in Indonesia and the USA, where, despite an increase in population size by 18 and 147 million people respectively, the rankings present a prediction of a decline. Also reflecting a projected growth in the number of inhabitants, Pakistan’s population is expected to rise to 316 million people while maintaining it’s rank of fifth place, the same as in 2019.
In contrast, there are expected downward trends in the population of Brazil and China, with a decrease by 36 and 498 million people in that order. Similarly, Bangladesh, Russia and Mexico are forecasted to witness a reduction in population size, replaced by D.R.Congo, Ethiopia and Tanzania in 2100.
