Dear Gwen,

I hope you and your family are in radiant health and best of spirits. I am writing to say sorry and let you know that I may not be able to go the movie with you this weekend.

I know you have been planning this for quite some time but due to some unforeseen events, I can’t make it on Saturday. My sister, Jane, has fallen ill and my parents are out of town for a week. In their absence, I need to take of her. I hope you can understand my predicament.

Moreover, I know the tickets that you have bought are non-refundable so, I’d suggest you try to sell it on Facebook community groups. Although, you might have to sell them at a discounted rate. However, we can go to cinema next Friday as it is a public holiday. I hope this is fine for you. Once again, I’m sorry!
