Public services are considered as a key factor which affects a nation directly. Therefore, some people believe that it is wiser for the governors to allocate the funds to public services rather than to the arts, and I totally agree with this statement.
Firstly, public services have more significant impacts on the citizens’ lives than arts. In fact, public services namely infrastructure, road systems, and healthcare services are directly linked to people’s lives as they have to use these services regularly, while the impacts of arts hardly approach the majority of the population. Therefore, should the government focus spending the national fund on improving the public services, it can benefit a large number of individuals. For example, when people have health problems, they definitely have to go to the hospital and take the healthcare services. Therefore, when the quality of healthcare services is invested to be improved, their health problems can be effectively addressed, and consequently, public health is consequently enhanced.
Second, public services significantly boost the economic development of a country. When the public services receive the major proportion of the national fund for improvements, the national living standard will certainly be ameliorated. A better quality of life can lead to an increase in the working efficiency of individuals, which has direct effects on national economic growth. It can be seen that the economic superpowers such as the United States, China, and Japan are the countries that attach importance to spending money on investing in their public services. Hence, allocating the national budget to the public sector is a way to develop the country’s economy.
In conclusion, with the benefits for both the citizens and the economic development, the government should allocate the majority of the national budget to public services rather than the arts.
