More individuals are suffering from health problems which cannot be cured by modern medicines due to a modern lifestyle. Therefore, some people believe that traditional medicine should be returned to use. I disagree with this opinion and this essay will explain in detail.
Traditional medicine relies on natural ingredients like herbs and plants, but in modern times, these ingredients are increasingly contaminated due to environmental pollution. This contamination can affect the efficacy of traditional medicines, rendering them less effective in treating illnesses. For example, plants grown in polluted soil or watered with contaminated sources may absorb harmful substances, which can compromise their healing properties. Take turmeric, for instance, a herb known for its anti-inflammatory effects. If grown in polluted soil, the beneficial compounds in turmeric could be altered, potentially causing harm rather than providing relief.
The rise in chronic and terminal conditions today isn’t solely due to the limitations of modern medicine; rather, it is often linked to lifestyle factors and environmental pollutants that harm health. Therefore, relying on traditional medicine alone may not be the solution. Instead, people should focus on adopting healthier lifestyles to prevent diseases in the first place. By doing so, they can improve their health and well-being without depending heavily on either traditional or modern medicines. For instance, individuals who smoke heavily face a high risk of lung cancer, regardless of the type of medicine they turn to for treatment. Ultimately, making healthier lifestyle choices could help reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases, highlighting the importance of prevention over treatment.
In conclusion, I believe that the encouragement to return to traditional medicine is unnecessary since its cleanness cannot be preserved due to the increasing pollution in nature nowadays. Furthermore, traditional or modern medicine will render useless in curing untreatable chronic diseases if people have no intention of changing to a better lifestyle.
