It is said that all types of advertisements are harmful and shoul be banned. I believe that an outright ban on them is not practical because not all forms of advertisements are damaging.
There is no denying that some types of advertisements bring drawbacks. First of all, when users are online, a sudden pop-up may appear and they will click on them unintentionally, increasing the risk of being attacked by virus. In addition, some advertisements often mislead the buyers by exaggerating their products’ benefits so that the clients will spend more money on their products. For example, some advertisements feature celebrities with perfect body shape to introduce their weight-loss medicine, convincing the buyers that their products will deliver the same results. These advertisements are damaging for society and should be banned.
However, advertisements that meet codes of ethics should be allowed to continue since they bring a lot of benefits for both businesses and buyers. On the business side, advertisements help them reach their target clients; therefore boosting sales, profits, and promoting the economic growth. On the buyers side, advertisements help them make comparison between various types of products with the same benefits but different prices and quality. Thanks to this, they can make well-informed purchasing decisions, ensuring they receive the best value of their money.
In conclusion, while several forms of advertisements are misleading or frustrating the consumers, banning them entirely are impractical. Instead, regulations should be enforced to prohibit deceptive and intrusive advertisements while allowing ethical advertising that benefits both businesses and consumers to continue.
