Many cities around the globe have traffic issues. There are a lot of opinions about causes of traffic jams and how to handle them, and in this essay I will examine the most reasonable ones.
There are a couple of reasons why people in every country have traffic jams. The main cause of this situation is the number of cars. Our cities have been developing throughout the centuries. Thus, they simply do not adapt to thousands or even millions cars. For instance, the infrastructure is weak and cities’ plans do not have a suitable place for cars. Secondly, this is also possible owing to poorly developed public transportation system. A lot of cities require people to have a car because usually this is the most convinient way to move around the city: buses are always late, trams are slow and old, metro is not inclusive. As a result, an ordinary person prefers comfort over principles.
There are two effective solutions to the problem of traffic jams. One way to tackle this is to reduce the usage of cars. A possible approach is to implement taxes for having a car. The car is luxury and people need to understand that is not for daily trips. Furthermore, expansion of public transoptation system might help mitigate the problem. However, some argue that public transportation is not the most comfortable way to have a ride, if city governments developed the whole system to the real needs of citizens, it would be the best solution for everyone because one bus can accomadate up to 60 people, whereas one car only four.
In conclusion, the possible reasons for traffic jams around the world are the number of cars and underdeveloped transportation system. As for solutions, it could be reducing car usage by implementing taxes and investing in public transportation.
