Current society often brings us to focus uniquely to the economic aspect of life and it drives as not to take care of other older, and maybe most essential, values. A human being is not what he posses, but the action that he/her does and the way of thinking that he/her has. Throuth the supplied essay I will try to outline the causes of this system and to briefly express my opinion about.
Capitalistic way of thinking helped by advertisements, social medias and other phenomenon such as fashion, are focused only on a materialistic point of view. This has brought values, not only old but regarding people’s inner minds, to be overcome in importance by superficial aspects, for instance appearances or your assets. Indeed, it is possible to notice this mechanism even in Politics, which presents the majority of debates regarding money and no more ideals, like in the last century.
Furthermore, modern daily lifestyle can be considered one of the reasons that brought some traditional values to lose relevancy. This is connected to the lack of sense of community in our current lives. As citizens we often do not know our neighbors and we proceed our lives selfishly, being not interested by what surrounds us.
To sum up, despite I’m convinced that economic balance and prosperity is decisive to live satisfied in our society, I have to affirm that it is a key point not to focus only on this aspect. It is more essential, indeed, to try to create connections and relationships in our society and to foster to enhance our world, following our own possibilities. For instance, being an activist for Amnesty International, a no-profit organization which works in human-rights field, has been one of the most impressive and decisive activities in my whole life. This helped me to grow and to increase a sense of awareness about my own place in the society.
