Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and I strongly agree that every household should be guaranteed a regular water supply free of charge. This essay will argue whether providing every individual with clean water is not only a basic requirement, but also an investment in social well-being and public health.
To begin with, water is essential for our daily survival. Without it, we wouldnt last more than a few days, eventually facing the dehydration. Lack of water can lead to severe health consequences, such as waterborne diseases. In developing countries this problem is especially pronounced, since here the dysentery is still present and no one is in charge of this issue. By ensuring free water supply to all houses in needs and not only, governments can easily prevent the problem of unstable healthcare systems. For instance, in Switzerland you can find water sources almost everywhere and it is completely free. Here clean water is considered a basic public good, and the idea of water-related illnesses is negligible.
Furthermore, providing clean water at no cost promotes social equality. In many parts of the world, low-income families are struggling to afford basic human utilities. Charging for water can lead to low rates of employment, rising rates of the poverty, and risks of leaving the poor valnurable. If water becomes a privileged commodity rather than a guaranteed resource, then it would be taken into account more and more that we should be grateful for what we have.
Despite that, some might argue that making water free may lead to huge economical problems and strain on government’s budget. However, it is pretty easy to control this process with the usage of smart systems that provide the data on general water usage and if it is fairly divided between the consumers.
In conclusion, the access to clean water is not a luxury but a necessity for our survival, and therefore, it should be provided to all households at no cost. By prioritising it, society might slowly move towards the fair and and universal health coverage, social justify and support of all types of income families.
