Advertising is an undeniable force in our lives. There is a prevailing notion that advertisements not only market products but also shape our culture by both setting norms and promoting values. From my perspeactive, I totally agree with this view on account of the reasoning presented below.
One reason is that advertising not only serves to promote products but also plays a crucial role in shaping societal standards. First, we encounter ads everywhere – on billboards, television screens, social media feeds, and even embedded within our entertainment, which normalizes the messages and imagery they portray. For instance, a constant stream of ads showcasing happy families using a specific brand of cereal can subtly suggest that such a product is essential for a fulfilling family life. Second, the repetition of certain images in advertisements can establish new trends or norms. For instance, in beauty product advertisements, the constant portrayal of slender figures as the epitome of beauty sets a standard that many women aspire to achieve.
Another reason is that advertising not only promotes products but also shapes and influences cultural values in society. The messages conveyed in advertisements often emphasize humanitarian values, celebrate and protect human and national cultural values, which helps guide individuals towards goodness and promotes the appreciation of “humanitarianism.” For example, the “Nurturing Vietnamese Feet” campaign by Biti’s sports shoes or the message from Prudential Insurance “Always listening – Always understanding” advertisement stands out as a heartwarming portrayal of human connection and care. Additionally, advertising plays a role in praising and protecting nature, promoting tourism, and fostering love for the homeland through the use of images and messages about the natural beauty of Vietnam. By showcasing these natural wonders, advertising not only attracts tourists but also instills a sense of pride and appreciation for Vietnam’s rich landscapes among its people, which fosters a deeper connection to our homeland and encourages the preservation of its natural environment for future generations to enjoy.
In conclusion, while … , it is my firm conviction that advertisements wield a profound influence on cultural norms and values.
