Recently there is an ongoing trend where many 18-year-olds are leaving their parents’ homes so that they can start living on their own after finishing highschool. This trend brings both advantages and challenges for both the parents and childrens. This essay will explore the benefits and drawbacks of this topic and will argue that the negative will outweigh its benefits.
A major benefit of childrens leaving their parents homes and living on their own is that they can learn to be independent and aren’t relying on their parents anymore. Children can be more free and they can express their mind or idea more broadly while not being limited by their parents. Additionally this would make them more mature earlier in their life and better prepare themself for the world.
Despite these benefits comes its disadvantages. For example it is more cost effective to live with your parents than living on your own. Also If the child isn’t prepared to live alone they are more likely to ruin themself rather than improve. Another drawback to living alone for children is that they are more prone to bad habits such as alcohol, drugs, violence, and many more. The time that they spend with their families is also being cut short because they are most likely to focus more on themself than with their families.
To sum it up, 18 year olds that are moving out and living on their own is a matter of choice for both the parents and the childrens. Although there are some advantages, its disadvantages outweigh its benefits. Parents need to know if their 18 year old child is ready or not to face the real world before letting them live on their own so that their children’s life isn’t ruined.
