In many countries, people decide that they will delay childbearing until later in life. This result in a demographic shift in the community resulting an increased number of senior citizen, and fewer young working individuals. This strains the economy of a country. The causes of this delayed childbearing are numerous, but they can be effectively mitigated through campaigns and the carefully planned Government policies.
The trend of postponing childbirth is increasing in many countries. This creates an immense pressure on the economy of the state. As low birth rate will produce a negative demographic shift in the community, with low fresh work-force to keep the economy running. This will also effect the employers of the corporations, they will face severe skilled worker shortage. As the elderly workers retire they will create a vacancy, and with no fresh employee to fill them up. Hence, creating a gap in the market. Moreover, as the people age, their health also deteriorates. This will put a burden on the Government to bear their healthcare expenses. Such is the case with Germany, they spend whooping million dollars annually on elderly healthcare.
To mitigate with these issues the Government should raise awareness among people. They should encourage childbearing at early life by giving graunts to the parents. The Government should also introduce policies stating a higher reward and amenities for parents with a large family. Awareness campaigns on national media should also be advertised. Healthcare for antenatal and postnatal patients should be free, so the parents will not be burdened to bear childbirth costs.
In conclusion, young work-force is very essential to keep the economy running. Having delayed childbirths decrease the fresh minds and create a gap in the job market. These issues can be effectively solved by a strong well-planned policy of the state. Awareness about positive and negative shifts on demographic scale should be raised.
