Face-recognition system or FR is one of the most controversial topics that has been discussed for some decades. Governments claim that FR is essential to maintaining the public’s safety while many activists are concerned about the privacy violation of the public. Saying which side is right might be a bit tricky.
First of all, it is worth considering that FR assists the police and the law enforcements to identify and arrest criminals and people who manupulate or abuse the law; including terrorists, murderers, drug dealers, burglars, and anyone who is involved in such activities. As its priority, FR is an advanced device that aims to help humans where they cannot undertake the tasks as effective as FR, or where they might make errors. Any othet matters that alert people is the consequences of the FR system.
Moreover, FR can help the victims of possible criminal incidents, such as kidnapping. In this case, FR can trace back someone’s steps by obtaining videos from public cameras and find out about their recent activities. Also, federal officers can analyze the victims’ pictures and information by easily accessing the datebase.
Although, I do not will to justify the malfunctions of the face-recognition technology, I believe it can be modified and its risks and threats can be incredibly decreased. It may not sound very humane, but I suppose it is acceptable to know about someone’s personal life or secrets in order to save thousands of lives that could be at danger at any momen of time.
