Some individuals claim that spending a period of time studying abroad is a part of the education system. Personally, I partly agree with this suggestion based on some reasons.
On the one hand, there are some persuasive rationales that support the claim that staying in a different country to learn its language and culture. In the past, without the advancement of technologies, studying abroad was the only way to improve language ability. At that time language knowledge and skills of teachers were not adequately developed, leading to false language theories and restricting the development of language abilities of students. Besides that, learning a language and culture of a country by living in this nation has helped students connect with global knowledge, especially in developed countries. As a result, students studying abroad can apply all the convenient and cutting-edge applications into their area’s industries to contribute to the development of the nation.
On the other hand, despite the idealistic nature of living in another country to learn its language and culture, its actual application could bring about many obstacles and problems. Studying abroad requires wealth accumulation to pay all living costs and tuition fees which are significant disparities because of currency value gaps. If ordinary people have to learn in another nation, individuals will suffer from debts, leading to bankruptcy. For example, many Vietnamese people studying abroad need to borrow money with high interest rates to submit study-related expenses. This will result not only in individual finances, but also nations’ones, causing economic crises, if it had been compulsory in the education system.
In conclusion, although living in another country to learn its language and culture brings economic issues, it also gives many opportunities for pupils. When students have a good economic background, they should join another national education system because it is a chance to improve not only in academic contexts, but also in living skills. But if studying abroad becomes a part of education, it needs subsidies from the government to guarantee the economic aspect.
