There has been ongoing debate regarding the wealth gap, which has drawn contrasting opinions from the public. While some people believe that economic growth is primary, others argue that society’s equity and mutual support are more essential. In this essay, both perspectives will be discussed and I will explain why I believe a balanced approach is better.
On the one hand, one might assert that economic progression is the most important because it can bring many benefits for society overall. Chief of these is that many companies are expanding their business branches, creating job opportunities. As a result, this phenomenon can tackle unemployment issues, support people financially thereby improve one’s quality of life. For example, they can meet their basic needs, securing financial stability and enhancing living standards. Added to this is the fact that economic development can alleviate the likelihood of poor residents committing illegal activities such as stealing or scamming ordinary people in order to acquire additional financial gains. This is because the governments may provide them better access to housing, education, or healthcare system by ameliorating public infrastructure. Therefore, I believe it can prevent unsafe societies rife with offenders, contributing to social harmony.
On the other end of the spectrum, in my opinion, it is also important to address social inequality and balance the support to every individual, regardless of their social status or financial circumstances. Specifically, disadvantaged people can have better opportunities to improve their lives. For instance, children from destitute family circumstances can be provided with more accessible education, thereby developing their academic performance then eventually breaking the cycle of illiteracy or indigence. Moreover, equitable society can reduce the resentment caused by people having problems with wealthy gap. Many individuals may feel socially isolated or lose a sense of belonging if they are lack of support in access to things that affluent people possess such as education, healthcare, job choices. Consequently, they may develop a sense of resistance to the government policies, having pessimistic perceiption about life accumulated by stress, depression, or dissastisfaction in long time.
In conclusion, people’s tendency to prioritize economic development is understandable. However, I think it should be well combined with the social equity and mutual support in order to enhance the access to social services or create a harmonious society.
