Journalism has been present in our society from ages and plays a crucial role in our lives. It has many roles and influences us in a variety of fields. Therefore it is important to take notice of how it affects us and whether it is beneficial or not.
One of the most important roles of journalism is to provide us with information. Setting out the facts and latest events is crucial to spread awareness in society. However to maintain credibility it needs to be done religiously. Which means that a journalist shouldn’t let his own views and opinions get in a way of simply stating facts. As his work is going to be read by a lot of people it ought to be accurate and not spread misinformation.
Another worthy aspect is the way in which it influences people’s opinions. An article, as I mentioned earlier, should be accurate however this doesn’t mean that a journalist can’t express their views and beliefs. It is highly beneficial for us to call into question our opinions and argue with them. Because sometimes we live in our information bubble deaf to other arguments. And how are we supposed to know what is true if we only stay in our comfort zone? In order to learn and grow we need to challenge ourselves and our minds. And reading or listening to other people’s beliefs is one of the best ways to do so.
In my view, providing truthful information is more important as it spreads awareness and gives people resources to build their own opinions.
