Imagine the large long concrete paths which go through every city in the world, glowing with endless red tail lights. These lights are not from fire, but from millions of cars owned by people everywhere. Nowadays, most people have their own car, resulting in ten million cars on the road in each country. Traffic jams bring a global problem called ‘ one big traffic jam ‘ which also affects both people and the environment.
One of the main reasons that causes traffic problems is that the population is rapidly increasing. Everyone uses the same routes to travel to work, especially during rush hours, even though public transportation such as sky train or subway is available. Moreover, people in today’s society think that having their own car will bring them convenience and express their status. As a result, this imperfectly affects our environment from the gas that cars produce and rising fuel costs which are not stable each day. The government has not remained indifferent about this problem. For example, in Thailand, the government lowered the fare of a sky train. The fare was reduced to twenty baht for the entire route. This policy successfully reduced traffic during that period. And the government is also expanding the public transportation routes which cover the area outside the city for those living outside the city.
In conclusion, the growing number of car owners is the main reason for the traffic jam which is still an inevitable problem. If the government and citizens work together by using public transportation, we can decrease our traffic and improve the environment.
