Band 8+: Childhood obesity has become a serious issue in recent years. What are the reasons for that and what can be done to solve it?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent years, the rate of children with excessive weight has increased exponentially, becoming a serious problem and concerning many parents and governments. While this phenomenon can be attributed to inadequate eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle, I think that it can be solved by putting restrictions on unhealthy food and engaging children in more physical activities.

Among many reasons, an inadequate diet and sedentary lifestyle can be the main driving forces behind this phenomenon. With the consumption of calorie-dense and high-sugar foods such as hamburgers, pizzas, half-ready meals, and soft drinks, many children are gaining an excessive weight, resulting in serious health complications, including diabetes, stomach cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. An inactive lifestyle can be another reason for this problem. Having consumed high-calorie foods, most children now tend to spend the majority of their time glued to screens, neglecting even basic exercise, an issue that can contribute to the rise in obesity rates, as these exercises are essential to leading a healthy lifestyle.

Putting more strict restrictions on fast food consumption among children can be one of the solutions. When parents sufficiently control their children’s diets, along with informing them about the detrimental impact of unhealthy food, many children may make informed choices in their diets, prioritizing organic products over processed food. However, focusing solely on diet cannot address this issue fully. As excessive weight is often gained when people do not spend more energy compared to how many calories they consume on a daily basis, engaging children in sports activities may be a great solution. In this case, the government should allocate more financial resources to constructing sports facilities and popularizing sports among children through TV shows or on social media. Only when children have adequate eating habits and do regular exercise can this issue be sufficiently tackled.

In summary, increased obesity rates often stem from unhealthy diets and a lack of physical exercise. I believe that restricting unhealthy food consumption, along with public awareness campaigns about the adverse ramifications of those products, and popularizing sports among children through the creation of more sports facilities can tackle this issue.

Rich countries often give money to poorer countries, but it does not solve poverty. Therefore, developed countries should give other types of help to the poor countries rather than financial aid. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

The issue of financial aid to poor countries has sparked considerable debate in recent years. One of the main reasons for this is that poor […]
