Childhood obesity is becoming a serious issue in many countries and is quite concerning nowadays. There are several reasons for the widespread occurrence of obesity among children. In this essay, various points will be raised, focusing on different aspects of obesity. Similarly, the effects will be discussed, along with different probable solutions to overcome this problem.
There are many viable reasons for the growth of this vulnerable disease among children from a very young age. One of the main reasons is that nowadays, children mainly focus on playing different indoor games (i.e., computer games, video games, etc.). Most of the time, they are busy with mobile devices during their free time, either surfing the internet, watching videos, or scrolling through posts on social networking sites. Moreover, they lose interest in playing different outdoor games such as football, cricket, or any other games that not only help them stay fit and active but also facilitate communication and socialization with other friends, people, or communities. Another reason for increasing obesity from a young age is the consumption of a large number of junk food items and drinks with high sugar content.
The abnormal, unhealthy lifestyle of today’s generation is one of the main reasons for the occurrence of various dangerous diseases among them. As most children are not going outside and are not willing to participate in different physical activities or sports, they are gaining weight enormously. Therefore, their bulky bodies are susceptible to various critical diseases, such as obesity, heart attacks, high cholesterol, and even cancer in some cases.
To overcome this growing health issue of obesity, several measures can be taken by both parents and schools. Parents must take care of their children’s dietary habits, encouraging them to eat fresh, non-oily food. Additionally, parents can engage them in different physical activities during their free time. Schools can also play a major role in addressing this alarming situation by implementing awareness programs, promoting sports, and restricting the availability of preservative-laden, oily, and junk foods in students’ lunchboxes. Furthermore, physical activity lessons can be introduced into the curriculum, which students would be required to attend regularly.
In conclusion, although obesity is quite a concerning issue among children and there are numerous effects associated with it, proper measures from both parents and schools can help children overcome this difficult situation.
