Over the recent decades, Mobile devices have become an integral part of people’s lives. It is argued that children ought to use mobile phones at an early age. I vehemently disagree with this statement because it has several potential drawbacks. In the following essay, I will present my perspective on why I disagree with such a notion.
Children using smartphones from an early age has harmful consequences shortly because it can easily distract them from their studies. To illustrate, excessive use of mobile phones can create a distraction from their studies, which leads to lower academic performance and eventually dark time ahead. Moreover, children may become addicted to games or social media on smartphones and waste their most valuable time, which can negatively impact their mental health.
Another point to consider is children might have smooth access to inappropriate content. For instance, handheld devices give them easy access to the internet, where they might be exposed to inappropriate content not suitable for their age, which can worsen their morale and ethics. Additionally, excessive screen time on smartphones can lead to physical health problems such as eye strain, headaches, and poor posture in children. Several studies have found it can cause chronic diseases namely brain tumors, which might be deadly.
To conclude, it can be said that using mobile phones has become a complex issue with no easy solution. I strongly believe that smartphones should not be allowed at a young age, however, under proper supervision, we can control children’s screen time and slightly minimize the dangerous outcome.
