In today’s globalized world, we more rely on food and similar resources. Food production is important to people’s lives. We cannot imagine our lives without basic resources such as food and water. There are two ways to choose. The first: some people believe that countries should try to manufacture all the food for their population. The second: others think that countries should import food, if possible, from other countries.
On the one hand, food production plays a significant role in people’s lives. Any country should try not to rely on other countries and should try to produce all the food needed for its inhabitants. Then, people will begin to trust the country more. And it can create new employment opportunities in this area. For example, farmers working in agriculture, or innovative food producers. New and innovative machines can help improve production in the country; also, it can give more opportunities for workers. I personally agree with this viewpoint.
On the other hand, self-sufficient countries can develop more and can ensure enough food production, which is needed for inhabitants in this area. If a country cannot provide enough food production, it can absolutely lead to debates between the population and the government. Eventually, people may lose their trust in the country. Importing food may not be a sustainable solution to problems; instead, it can cause a debt burden and reliance on other countries. However, there is a useful side to importing: imported products may be inexpensive for the population compared to domestically produced goods, but this is not enough.
In conclusion, I think a country should be independent and should try to manufacture all the food needed for its population; although imported food may be cheaper, this is not enough for a developing country.
